What is Influenza?

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a seasonal flu vaccination each year.

Every year in the United States, on average:
5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.

Dear patients, parents, and caregivers:

Due to a substantial increase in missed appointments, Delaware Pediatrics has begun a missed-appointment fee of $25 that went into effect February 1, 2011. 

Any missed appointment (e.g. physical, well child, sick visit, immunization/allergy shot visit) without 24 hours prior notice will be subject to this fee.  Patient families may leave a voicemail notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to the appointment on the office voicemail or may speak to a staff member during business hours at least 24 hours in advance.  Leaving notice of cancellation with the on-call physician is NOT acceptable.

This fee is not covered by insurance; ultimately, it will be the  responsibility of  the patient's guarantor.
